Materials
Quality & Materials

Every pair of Ichiro Scissors features premium hardened steel rated 57-62 HRC. The convex edge cuts cleanly. The blade stays sharp longer than a beveled edge, because the curve does not have a flat plane to dull.
Every pair goes through intricate quality checks and final assembly at our Saitama workshop before it ships. Modern quality standards. Traditional attention to detail. The result is a cutting tool that performs the same on the first day as on the hundredth.
Saitama workshop
Our Saitama workshop

Every scissor in the Ichiro range passes through our Saitama workshop before it ships. Blade alignment is checked. Tension is set. The finish is inspected. Final assembly is completed by hand.
This is the quiet step that separates a professional scissor from a generic one. The work happens before the box is sealed — not after a complaint arrives.

Caring for your scissors

Common questions from professionals using Ichiro scissors day to day.
How often should I oil my Ichiro scissors?
Daily — at the end of each work day, apply a small drop of camellia oil (or a similar high-quality scissor oil) to the pivot, open and close the blades a few times, and wipe away excess oil with a soft cloth. Blades that run dry wear faster; blades that are oiled as part of a routine keep their cutting feel much longer.
Can I sharpen convex-edge scissors myself?
No. Convex edges require a specialist who works with honing guides that hold the blade at the correct angle across the full curve. Attempting to sharpen them yourself — or using a craftsperson without convex-edge experience — will flatten the curve and permanently reduce the cutting performance. See our sharpening page for two safe routes.
How do I know when my scissors need professional sharpening?
You feel it before you see it. The first sign is the scissor starting to fold or push hair rather than slice through cleanly. Cosmetologists working in a full-time salon typically send scissors in for resharpening every 6–12 months. Use less? Every 12–18 months is fine.
What oil should I use?
Camellia oil (tsubaki-abura / 椿油) is the traditional choice and works very well. A high-quality sewing-machine or clipper oil is acceptable. Avoid cooking oils, WD-40, or general lubricants — they attract dust and can gum up the pivot.
Do Ichiro scissors come with a warranty?
Yes — a lifetime warranty covers manufacturing and material defects. Register your purchase on the warranty registration page. Warranty does not cover damage from misuse, dropping, attempts to self-sharpen, or use outside professional hairdressing.
